VII. Translation

EPIC will be translated from English into French, Spanish, and Russian. Experience tells us that a clear methodology should be laid out for this process. For the sake of efficiency, a Version 1 for EPIC will be completed in English before beginning the process of translation. Once a Version 1 (English) is available, we intend to begin the translation of Version 1 in to the other languages. Any feedback and changes from those translations will be translated into English and used in updating Version 1 (English) to Version 2 (English). Once Version 2 (English) is complete, a Version 2 will be created in the other languages.

During the research phase, the research instrument will be translated into the four primary languages. At the time when election authorities are asked to provide information, the translation of the instrument will be made available to them in both hard copy and online. Comments offered in the three languages which are not English will then be translated back to English.

A translation methodology is available in Appendix 4.
