Other parts of Iceland.

Left : Akureyri - The biggest city in the north. (appr. 15.000 inh.) Beautifully situated at Eyjafjördur. In Akureyri you can find a botanical garden!

Right: Lake Myvatn is undoubtly the most interesting sight in the north. The lake which attracts lots of birds is situated in an geologically interesting area. In the background you can see mount Hverfjall - a volcanic crater.

Namaskard is a volcanic area east of Myvatn. Watch your step and have a nice smell of sulphur!

Left: Djupivogur - a small village situated on the SE corner of Iceland. Trading station since the 16:th century.

Right: Jökulsarlon - a 100 metres deep glacier-lake situated at the edge of Vatnajökul. The glacier gradually melts and delivers blocks of ice into the lake. As a tourist you can have a trip by boat among the blocks. If you are lucky you may see a seal.

Left: The folk museum at Skogar. Houses and items from the past are shown here. An enthusiastic man, Thordar Thomasson, guided us around the museum.The photo shows old dwelling-houses. Wood has been a rare and expensive material. The material was often used only for one facade.

Right: Svartifoss - a water-fall situated close to Skogar. At a close look you can see the beautiful black basalt stone.

Left: Tingvalla and lakeTingvallavatn. The Icelandic parliament was founded here year 930.

Right: Allmannagja - a long cleft filled with water.
