Daniel scanned the darkened room his implants enhancing the image so that he could see all of the security devices. Red lines appeared wherever a security laser was projected, the implants built into his brain adding additional information as the array of sensors built into his special bio-suite gathered a whole host of information.
Safest route to target, he thought to the implants. As soon as hed thought the words a bright green route was overlaid onto his scope of vision.
Well, Ill be damned it actually works. Still the sceptic Daniel found it hard to rely completely on his latest upgrades. Too many times hed been caught out by the latest upgrade to his rather special software package giving him false information or simply refusing to do anything at all. Of course he wasnt really in a position to complain to anyone. Being an industrial spy wasnt exactly considered legal, even now in the 21st century.
Daniel walked forward to the target computer. The computer was sitting on the desk of some corporate junkie. Daniel always took the easiest jobs when breaking in new software. It paid the bills with little risk. The elementary security present presented no problem to his bio-suite. The bio-suite was the latest addition to the tools of the trade. More like a second skin being made up of nanomachines it covered every part of his body. The nanomachines provided his air, sight and sound while also enhancing his strength. A whole host of other abilities were boasted about in the promotional brochure (it has cost him almost a years earnings to buy the bio-suite from his military contacts). He sensed something on his leg, when he looked down he could see one of the lasers hitting his right leg and being projected from his left leg. This is going to make my life a whole lot easier, he thought, smiling to himself.
Now sitting in front of the computer he placed his hand next to the universal port on the side of the screen. He watched in fascination as a snake like extension came out of his hand and literally grew into the side of the computer. He felt the connection as the snake like extension came into contact with the port. Although he was not in direct contact with the computer he could sense everything that was happening through his implants.
Send username, password and ident, he thought. The information was sent to the computer and access was immediately given. He had spent weeks following his target and gathering information through the net.
Download files then disconnect. It was now that the danger came. Even he couldnt fool the central computer into thinking that this was normal working hours. The alert should already have gone out. Usual response time 2 minutes. This was cutting it fine.
He looked up from the terminal and looked out of the office window. The moon craters were half in shadow half bathed in strikingly bright sunlight. Very few buildings were visible most of them having been dug into the regolith in order to protect them from the radiation and heat extremes. Only the large companies who needed to show their wealth could afford the high tech materials needed to have buildings like this exposed to the moons elements.
Suddenly he found his head being moved automatically. Panicked for a while he tried resisting the movement before he realised that the bio-suite was trying to protect him. The in-built software routines had of course been scanning the room for all signs of danger while he sat there admiring the view. He let the suite control his head movement and soon found the danger. Highlighted in red the security vehicle was approaching rapidly from the east. Figures next to the hovercraft indicated registration, vehicle type, speed and finally a percentage telling him what chances he had if the suite were to try and destroy the vehicle (he had forgotten that this was military hardware). The suite gave hi a 95% chance at destroying the vehicle. Daniel wondered how he would accomplish that, but this was not in his mission profile.
Download complete. He heard the words in the back of his head. Right, time to move. He switched the bio-suite into full defensive mode. This essentially made him invisible to all but the most advanced military sensors. The suite was able to hide all heat signatures by storing the heat internally and then releasing it slowly after the mission. The suite was also able to project light in order to mimic the surroundings. Not advanced enough to fool a computer surveillance it would fool most people unless they were looking very closely for the distortion around the edges of the suite.
The time for subtlety had gone. Now he walked directly through all of the various sensors put there to detect thieves. His bio-suite now being in defensive mode was unable to deflect the various sensors this time. Within seconds alerts were wailing and nerve gas started pouring through the ventilation system. Like a ghost Daniel walked through all of this without any sign of concern. The suite quite efficiently filtered out all of the nerve gas.
Daniel walked through the main office entrance and headed towards the roof. The plush carpets lining the walls of the executive corridor quite effectively muffled any sound that he might have been making. After running up the stairway five steps at time he came to the exit to the roof. A quick command to his implants brought up the required data required to open the lock. Placing his hand on the sensor plate the bio-suite changed shape so that the fingerprints of the guard, who was lying unconscious in the basement, took form on the bio-suite. The door opened and he stepped into the airlock. As soon as the door closed behind him the airlock began to cycle out all of the air. Twenty seconds later the outer door opened. A counter appeared in the top right of his vision telling him how much time he had before the suite could no longer provide oxygen for him.
Two minutes, should be enough.
Daniel walked over to the edge of the building. Now he had to put all of his trust into the bio-suite. He was exactly 19.5 metres from the ground. Even with the reduced gravity of the moon this was not a jump he would want to attempt.
Here goes nothing, GERONIMO hmmph
The suite took control of his body as he rolled. It wasnt exactly the softest landing hed had but no serious injuries. Quickly he ran the 200 metres to one of the main airlocks that let workers out onto the surface of the moon. He stepped quickly into the airlock.
30 seconds left. Plenty of time. Deactivate bio-suite.
The suite changed to a dull grey before the nanomachines moved under the surface of his skin. Daniel could never get used to the sensation of the nanomachines moving under his skin. He quickly picked up the package of clothes hed left in the airlock previously during the day and dressed in the standard maintenance workers coverall. The airlock finished recycling and he walked into the corridor. Empty, luckily.
On his way back to his living quarters he met nobody. His first mission with his new bio-suite was a complete success. Im gonna have to personalise this thing, he thought to himself.
